Coming Soon to KickStarter, it’s the Zine Club Pledge Drive!

For folks who backed CATS: A Sketchbook on Crowdfundr – the files have been sent to the printer! The books should arrive by Feb 8, but I’ll keep you posted if there are delays.

I wanted to address that first, just in case you’re like, “My dude, you are running too many campaigns back to back.” (If the fall of last year taught me anything, it’s that I can do consecutive crowdfunding campaigns and still fulfill on them).

So, the Zine Club Pledge Drive is happening soon on KickStarter.

Why KickStarter? Because the platform is hosting an event called Zine Quest, highlighting different zine projects. And I have a Zine Club! Since I’m not on Patreon (for reasons), it’s a membership tier on Ko-Fi most of the time.

With this Zine Club Pledge Drive, I want to offer discounted rates for 6-month, 12-month, and lifetime subscriptions to the Zine Club! The goal is to grow the Zine Club so we can make more zines and grow the readership. I am SO grateful for your support! AND I would love to grow the fan base so we can make more cool things happen.

I’m hoping to launch this campaign no later than Feb 1 and have it run for 2 weeks. I’ve received feedback that a 2-week run time would help folks who are on a biweekly pay schedule AND help the campaign circulate on social media. So that’s what we’re doing with this campaign.

CATS: The Sketchbook is NOW LIVE on Crowdfundr!

They’re cute, cuddly little goblins who steal your food and your hearts. It’s CATS!

BEHOLD! I have put together an art book full of cat sketches I drew during the Inktober challenge of 2023!

WHY

I got the idea at Small Press Expo when someone came up to my table and spotted The Stars of Fantasyville (my 2022 Inktober sketchbook). They saw Duchess, my black cat character on the front and flipped through it. And they said, “Oh I thought the whole book was cats.”

And I said, “That’s my NEXT book!” So I made it happen.

I had been meaning to make an art book of cats for a while, anyway, and that was the signal I needed to make it happen.

HOW

With YOUR help, because I don’t have the budget to print these books on my own.

Thanks to a generous patron on Ko-fi, I DO have about $70 saved back for this project. Which is enough to cover the books getting shipped to me. Here’s a breakdown of what we still need to make this happen:

I’m not getting an ISBN or barcode for this book to keep the circulation small. As cute as the idea is, I don’t expect this book to pop up at Barnes & Noble or something similar. CATS is more of an art zine. Let it be a collector’s item!

As for shipping to backers, Crowdfundr has shipping costs as a separate line item in the budget. So I can just ask for the goal, but still get the funding needed to ship stuff because it’s handled separately! It’s kooky compared to KickStarter, but it works.

“Who’s printing the book?”

We’re going to the same folks who printed The Stars of Fantasyville to print these CATS books…MIXAM! For art books, their print and paper quality is *chef’s kiss* marvelous. Plus they’re fast and budget-friendly, and their customer service is stellar.

WHEN

This campaign is only open for ONE WEEK and ENDS on Jan 18. For reasons why it’s so short, I go into it on the campaign page.

Change of Plans for Mr. Dino

There is a change of plans regarding a future shop.

Before I go into that, I’ve officially “Finished” the Mr. Dino Pride Keychains campaign, meaning payments are done processing. Once I receive the keychains from the supplier, pre-orders will be fulfilled.

After pre-orders are fulfilled, however, Mr. Dino will NOT roll over into a separate shop.

Why? Because there is not enough demand or product to justify opening a separate storefront for Mr. Dino at this time. I have enough stock to fulfill pre-orders, but no more than that.

Does this mean that Mr. Dino will not get future merch? No. Mr. Dino will still be around. But he will be listed alongside my other stock on my Ko-Fi shop.

Will Mr. Dino have future crowdfunding campaigns? Who’s to say? He may get a campaign of his own, and/or he may have merch listed as rewards in a different campaign. I’m leaving those plans open for now.

Until then, I will keep you in the loop when the keychains arrive from the printer. Once they arrive, orders will ship out ASAP.

We have received the proof from the printer! Kelci will post a video on their YouTube channel before the end of the week to show it off. After reviewing the proof, we sent some corrected pages to the printer and are awaiting the digital proof. If everything looks good after that, we’ll send the approval to the printer!

Due to the supplier being on vacation until October 5, we’re extending the pre-order window. Mr. Dino Pride Keychains and Stickers are now available UNTIL OCTOBER 6 at 11:59 pm EST.

Today’s Crowdfund Café update features news that’s familiar to a lot of IRL cafés – supply chain snafus.

MR DINO PRIDE KEYCHAINS

We found out our supplier for keychains is going on vacation between September 28 and October 5. This falls in the window that the Crowdfundr for Mr. Dino Pride keychains would close.

So here’s a question for current and pending backers: Should we wrap up the campaign early and put orders in ASAP? OR, should we extend the campaign to October 6?

The files are sent off to the printer! Now, don’t expect an update from the printer for another 14 days (at best). But I DID ask for a print proof before we go full steam ahead.
