A Deleted Scene from Chapter 13

THE LEGEND OF JAMIE ROBERTS

Panel 1: Basho and Norsa stand to the left as 4 uniformed figures appear on the right of the panel. One of them asks, “What do you need, Raguns?” Norsa’s reply leads us into the second panel, which is closer on the four soldiers. Norsa says, “Unfortunate news: The orb of Maliwe is broken...that means I want all of you on watch for ANY sign of Ranki.” Two soldiers are alarmed. Two in the back don’t move but their eyes dart to steal glances at each other. Panel 3: Norsa gestures a thumb to Basho. She says, “If you see someone who looks like Ragun Basho, that is him. Report to us as soon as you spot him.” Panel 4: Close up on the pale soldier. Out of concern, ze ask, “If we spot him, do we apprehend him?” Norsa replies from off-panel, “Only if you deem it safe to do so. Do not take unnecessary risks. We don’t know what his plan is or how he will act.” In the final panel, the four soldiers bow at the waist. “As you wish,” the pale one says. From off-panel, Norsa says, “You are dismissed.”

VANITA AND THE DEMON KING

Panel 1: medium-close-up on Vanita as she sits in the blanket fort. “Reshaped?” she asks. In the remaining panels, King narrates over flashbacks. Panel 2: King is kneeling at the feet of a sorcerer with blonde hair in red robes. The sorcerer holds a magic book and smirks, hand outstretched. He has summoned King at his feet. King: “Yes. When I was brought here...Ma – Mister Wintergate used a powerful spell to mold my soul into a body. Panel 3: Close up on a demon’s tail. King: “I lost my tail -” Panel 4: Close up on the demon feet as King says, “ - my feet - “ Panel 5: Zoom out to see demonic wings as King says, “ - and most regrettably, my wings.” Panel 6: In this wide panel, we see King on the floor in the center of intersecting chalk lines. At each nexus where the lines meet, there are seven orange-red candles. King: “Wintergate used this spell to make me… ‘Perfect,’ meaning more like himself.”

The rewrites for The Legend of Jamie Roberts, Chapter 13 are going a WHOLE lot smoother this time around than when I wrote the first draft. That signals to me that this new draft is a much better direction.

I think I figured out what the problem was between the old draft and this new rewrite.

So, the old draft was concocted in a version of the story where Basho dies. However, within the last year I decided to change that plot point so that Basho lives.

Because of that, a LOT of sequences in chapter 13 had to change. The rest of the outline is fine, but chapter 13 has a LOT to it. It’s the point in the narrative where big changes happen, with repercussions throughout the rest of the story. So I wanted to get it right.

That said, I want to share one sequence of the old Chapter 13 that I got a giggle out of. These are going to be very rough and doodle-y, just a heads up.

CLUB REWARDS

The Legend of Jamie Roberts, volume 3 is still at the printer. So rather than waiting for the books to arrive – and bundling Ko-fi rewards with KickStarter ones together – I’m going to send the Ko-fi rewards first.

That means that soon you’ll be getting the Fantasyville Holiday Special 2025 zine!

Unfortunately, the Valkyrie mini-prints were a bust – the printer started giving me issues with the paper I was using, and because of the weather lately, I’ve not had a chance to run to the store to get the good stuff.

Honestly, the zine is more festive, so I would rather send that to you.

I do also have a ton of leftover stickers, so expect some surprise stickers with your zines, as well.
