VANITA AND THE DEMON KING

In this full-page, we see through the kitchen window and see Vanita and the Demon King in a quiet, contemplative embrace.

AN IGNORANCE OF ROMANCE

Before bread can break any further, the baby demands to be fed. Panel 1: Jessa passes bread to Lian’s open hand, saying, “You Just have to find someone who likes your particular flavor.” Panel 2: Jessa brings a chair and scoots it to the table between Lian and the baby. The baby’s eyes water. Lian takes a bite of bread, looking skeptical as Jessa says, “That’s why you’re going on a quest, right? To Find who likes your flavor of mead, as it were…” Panel 3: A similar shot to Panel 2, but as Lian says, “Well actually - “ the baby cries, getting Lian and Jessa’s attention. Panel 4: Jessa breast feeds the baby and sits down across from Lian. Lian says, “Jessa, how will you handle things with Stewart gone?” Jessa says, “Oh, Stewart’s mother is helping…” She picks up a piece of bread to eat.
I’ll go into more detail about Maker’s Mart in “Meanwhile, In the Shop” below. But first I have to announce something.

A group in Steubenville, OH is trying to ban my book, The Legend of Jamie Roberts, volume 1 and other LGBTQ+ books. Of course they’re painting themselves as “concerned citizens” and “we’re not trying to defund the library!” But they’re trying to get voters to reject a levy that would keep up funding for the public library. So they ARE trying to defund it for carrying books like mine.

I’m going to be writing an open letter to the editor of the local papers in the area soon about this issue. If you’d like to know more details, I have a post about it on my website.

Two important things: 1, I did an oops and shared info (through a comment on a separate site that can't be deleted) about the people specifically trying to take the funding away. It’s very important that you DO NOT share their website, even for “look at these dinguses” purposes. You don’t want to accidentally give people a chance to be recruited into their cause. The surest way to kill their momentum is to make sure people can’t be sent to them.

Thing 2, if the idea of book bans is upsetting to you (and it ought to be), I encourage you to write letters to your local library board, attend their meetings, put in requests at your local library, and write letters to the editors of your local papers. Talk to your friends and encourage them to do the same. It takes effort but the effort is worth it. Libraries are awesome.
A young genderqueer person with blonde hair and glasses sits on the edge of a mesa. Two young men stand behind them, one with dark brown hair and the other with light blonde hair. All three wear a light green cape and are gazing out over the horizon. In the distance is a long, winding path leading to a mesa and a castle town sitting on top of it.
The Legend of Jamie Roberts, volume 3 on KickStarter is just about done! Today is the only day for the Late Pledge window, so you have until 11:59 pm ET tonight to make a Late Pledge.

For now, I’m going to send the files off to the printer before the end of the day! I'm also going to start drafting the short story we unlocked (because we reached the 30-backer goal)! Then I’m going to tally up everything that everyone’s ordered. That way I can prepare for reward shipping and...
an assortment of comics, minicomics, zines, and stickers are on display on a bright yellow tablecloth.
Maker’s Mart! It's TOMORROW, y’all!

If you’re in the Toledo, OH area, Maker’s Mart is at Handmade Toledo from 11 am to 6 pm Saturday (Nov 15). There will be a LOT of makers and crafters there, so be sure to stop by if you can! I'm going to be there with some comics, original art, and some crafts I normally don't bring with me to comic or zine fests.

For folks who get this newsletter – if you can make it in person, let me know you’re on this list. I can show you some pages right out of my sketchbook!
I’m running a zine food drive!

How to Make Eegyt’s Pepper Soup and The Himbo’s Guide to Cooking Chicken will remain free to download for folks in need. That said, every dollar these zines make will go to the Brown Bag Food Project, a mutual aid project in Wood County, OH making sure that families in need are fed. Every $35 raised means a holiday dinner for a family who needs it. Let’s see how many family dinners we can fund!

This zine food drive is running UNTIL NOV 30. More info is in this Ko-fi post.

That's all for now...
