Vanita and the Demon King is still running Friday updates. If you need to catch up on the story, check out the archives.
You see this little red book here? This is my new sketchbook. It’s roughly the size of my palm. It’s the smallest sketchbook I’ve ever drawn in. It’s itty. It’s bitty.
And I adore it so much.

You gotta’ understand – up to this point, my sketchbooks have all been Strathmore ring-bound things roughly half-letter size (that’s about 5 and a half inches wide by 8 and a half inches tall). My sketchbooks have been this kind of format for the last four years.

And yet, the old format was starting to get...stifling. Like, “Dang. I just need to doodle something quick. But I have all this space. I gotta’ use it, right?” Followed by either not using the space, or having disjointed doodles next to each other with no context.

But my little red sketchbook says, “Nah, fam. I’m just 4 and a half inches square and perfectly bound like a tiny piece of literature with nice, thick, blank pages. Have fun with my itty bitty pages.”

...And now I’ve filled pages upon pages of it with sketches and doodles for a new short comic idea. This time inspired by a prompt from a jam on itch.io. The prompt: “5 times your characters almost kissed.”

...It’s time that Jamie and Thomas get their own little side story.

(This is still a work in progress. But here are two of my favorite sketches of the bunch!)
To be honest, I think the cover art for The Legend of Jamie Roberts, Chapter 13 is one of my favorite covers I’ve ever drawn.

Vanita and the Demon King continue sharing a tender moment in the blanket fort...until of course, we have to check on the chicken.

Also, no new shop updates. I’m also not taking commissions for a little while, as work outside of the studio is all-hands-on-deck right now.

SIGNAL BOOST!

Wasted Ink Zine Distro carries some of my zines, as well as zines from a ton of cool peeps in Phoenix, AZ! They are also running For the Love of Zines, a crowdfunding campaign to keep their printers running and to support Phoenix Zine Fest!

Artist friends – Lan is looking for fanart contributors for his comic, The Titan! More details are in this Bluesky post.

Also for my artist friends who want to participate in Hourly Comic Day – please move the start date to Feb 8! The Cartoonist Co-op is calling for this move in observance and solidarity with Black History month. (I’m still putting together the Cartoonist Co-op Mixtape Podcast episode for Black History Month, so stay tuned!).

And finally, to get political for a minute (even at the risk of losing more subscribers), The Onion now has “Sinister Minnesotans” merch! Profits go to aid organizations in Minnesota to keep our neighbors safe.

If you’re broke, send a message of love to our friends in Minnesota! Stand with Minnesota has a little form for you to write a message with, plus links for more info if you feel called to do more.

That’s all for now...
